We are based in the San Francisco Bay Area (California)

In 2009, Team AirZone attended The American Kitefliers Association (AKA) Grand Nationals in Rochester, MN and placed First in Team Ballet and Second in Team Precision in our three-person configuration of Darrin, Aaron and John. We flew the final competitive performance of The Phantom routine.

In late 2009, a new 3-person choreography was developed for Lawrence of Arabia. Darrin, Aaron and John traveled to Berck-sur-Mer for the World Sport Kite Championships (WSKC) in April, 2010 as the sole representative of the AKA. We placed 4th in a field of 8, just missing the podium.

After the 2010, WSKC, Francisco rejoined the team. We are now developing new ballet routines for public exhibition and competition.

In 2011, AirZone was the sole Masters team competing at the American Kitefliers Association Annual Convention in Wildwood, NJ in October, 2011. Unfortunately, Francisco was not able to join us. We also competed alone at the AKA convention at Enid, Oklahoma in 2012.

We competed in the WSKC 2012 competition in Berck-sur-Mer again. We took 4th place with Lawrence of Arabia with the three-person team of Darrin, Aaron and John.

In mid-2013, we added a new team member: Drew Bembenek. It also looks like Francisco will have some time for the team this year. That will open up a number of possible combinations.

We are now getting ready for WSKC 2016 in April in Berck, France.

Our Kites

We mainly fly dual-line kites made by Carl Robertshaw in London, England. The Fury is a full-sized sport kite that tracks well and, in capable hands, can do all the tricks-du-jour.

Each team member has three different kites, identical in color but different in sail weight and framing. We can fly in winds that range from 2 to 40 mph by changing a combination of kites, line weights and 'air brakes'
